Berryessa Snow Mountain National Monument protects 344,476 acres in the northern California Coast Ranges, extending about 100 miles from Mendocino County toward the mountains near Lake Berryessa. Created in 2015 under the Antiquities Act and expanded in 2024 to include the Molok Luyuk ridgeline, it preserves rugged ridges, wild canyons, and the Snow Mountain, Cache Creek, and Cedar Roughs wilderness areas. The region is among California’s most biologically diverse, supporting eagles, bears, mountain lions, elk, salmon, steelhead, and rare serpentine plants. It also holds deep human history, with Native peoples living here for roughly 11,000 years, and it remains valued for linking cultural heritage, biodiversity, and largely undeveloped mountain country.
