During 1860, this house was rented to Mrs. Cook, a widow, who let rooms to help provide support for herself and her children. In 1855, a Springfield newspaper carried an advertisement for Mrs. Cook's photographic studio, with its "splendid Camera, beautiful stock, and the best light in the city."
