Electra Havemeyer Webb (1888-1960), a pioneering collector of American folk art, established Shelburne Museum in 1947 to celebrate, in her words, "the art of everyday people" and to create "an educational project, varied and alive." Its park-like grounds contain collections of 17th- to 20th-century American and European paintings, folk art, quilts, furniture, decorative arts, and artifacts, exhibited among 39 historic structures and modern galleries.
