From Oct. 3-6, 1864, Lt. Gen. John B. Hood of the Confederacy had headquarters at the Colley house, while en route with his army to Tennessee after the fall of Atlanta. In this vicinity, Hood marked time as Stewart’s A. C. wrecked the State R. R. between Marietta and the Etowah River, including French’s Confederate attempt to capture the Federal garrison at Allatoona on Oct. 5. On Oct. 6, Hood’s forces resumed their march to Dallas, Van Wert, Cedartown, and Cave Spring, continuing on to battle and defeat at Nashville.
