Petrified Wood
Nature
16
This piece of petrified wood was found near the mouth of Moffett Creek when the Columbia River Highway was widened in 1950. The wood turned to stone as the fiber of the original tree, which lived during the early Miocene age (26 million years ago), was gradually replaced over time by the mineral silicon dioxide.
