THE STORY
Narrated · Plays hands-free in Travel Mode
The Great Chicago Fire of October 1871 destroyed 17,000 buildings in Chicago across more than 3 square miles. In the more than 150 years since, some of the few buildings that survived the fire were replaced, and today only a limited number of Chicago's pre-1871 buildings remain standing within the city limits.
