Silas Wesley was a community and church leader, businessman, and farmer who opened the first general store in 1876, gave Bethelridge its name in 1890, served as the first postmaster, sponsored the first telephone, and helped establish banks at nearby Middleburg and Eubank. His ancestors were among the first settlers in this area.
