Carvers Creek State Park in North Carolina’s Sandhills protects 4,530 acres along Carvers Creek near Fayetteville and Fort Bragg. Organized around Long Valley Farm and the Sandhills Property, it offers trails, fishing access, and other outdoor recreation, including paths around the former winter estate of James Stillman Rockefeller. Its most notable historic feature is the Rockefeller House, a large residence beside a mill pond dating to nineteenth-century lumber operations. Flooding in 2016 burst the old dam and drained most of the pond, but restoration allowed refilling, fish restocking, and the return of fishing and guided canoe trips by 2020. The park remains both a natural preserve and a cultural landscape under continuing restoration.
