The Pilot Butte Inn was an excellent small hotel known far and wide. Built by Philips Brooks of the Brooks Mill Family, it was the focal point for community activities for many years. A massive lava rock fireplace, wrought iron detailing, and a six-foot-by seventy-foot plate glass window imported from France placed it in a class by itself. Over the years it hosted many famous people, including Eleanor Roosevelt and Herbert Hoover. After a long battle by local citizens to save it, the Inn was demolished in 1973.
