Albert Sidney Johnston was born in Washington, Kentucky, on February 2, 1803, graduated from West Point in 1826, served in the Black Hawk War, the War for Texas Independence, the Mexican War, and the War Between the States, and was killed at Shiloh, Tennessee, on April 6, 1862. He was remembered as "A Man Tried in Many High Offices and Critical Enterprises and Found Faithful in All."
