Santa Rosa Lake State Park in eastern New Mexico centers on the three thousand eight hundred-acre Santa Rosa Reservoir, about seven miles north of Santa Rosa on New Mexico Route ninety-one. Opened in nineteen eighty-one at roughly four thousand eight hundred feet above sea level, it is a lakeside recreation area in a high-desert landscape. The reservoir is the park’s main natural feature and supports fishing for largemouth bass, catfish, and walleye. Surrounding vegetation is characterized by juniper and pinyon, the dominant trees of the area, giving the park its distinct open setting.
