THE STORY



Cole Palen purchased this property in 1958 and created a replica World War I aerodrome with full-size flying aircraft, vehicles, and hangars, a unique setting that offered an ideal location to fly World War I model aircraft. In 1967, the Mid-Hudson Radio Control Society, with support from Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome and the Academy of Model Aeronautics, sponsored the first World War I Jamboree, the first such event devoted exclusively to World War I models. The annual Jamboree attracts modelers from around the world and at its peak drew more than 8000 spectators.
