Pine Mountain is a summit in southwestern Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains, within the Mount Rogers National Recreation Area of Jefferson National Forest. In Grayson County just east of Mount Rogers, the state’s highest mountain, it has a sparsely vegetated top that opens broad views of Mount Rogers and the surrounding high country. The Appalachian Trail passes within feet of the summit, making it an accessible overlook along a famed long-distance footpath. Though Pine Mountain is the second-highest named summit in Virginia, it is generally considered a subsidiary peak of Mount Rogers because its topographic prominence is well under 300 feet.
