Snowshoe Mountain is a ski resort in Snowshoe, West Virginia, in the Allegheny Mountains, though it sits on Cheat Mountain where Cheat and Back Allegheny meet. Opened on December 13, 1974, on formerly logged land, it was created by Thomas “Doc” Brigham as a four-season destination. Its summit village, 244 acres of skiable terrain, and sixty slopes and trails with Silver Creek make it unusual and prominent, while Cupp Run and Shay’s Revenge share the highest vertical drop in the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic. Rooted in the region’s logging past, the resort has grown from early financial struggles into a major year-round destination for skiing, biking, golf, and events.
