The New Jersey Gold Star Family Monument is dedicated to the families of those who have fallen in all wars and conflicts throughout American history, honoring the sacrifice of families who have lost a loved one in defense of the country. Its mission is to create a tranquil setting for meditation and reflection while also serving as an educational medium depicting the emotional journey of a Gold Star Family, the loss they endure, and the many sacrifices they continue to make. It includes the words presented on behalf of the President of the United States, a branch of service, and a grateful nation when a flag is given to the next of kin at a military funeral, notes that the flag is folded thirteen times and that each fold represents one of the original colonies, and invokes lines from the West Point Alma Mater, a quotation carried by Eleanor Roosevelt during World War Two, the Oath of Enlistment, and the ideals of duty, honor, and country.
