Henry Hudson Trail is a twenty-four-mile paved rail trail in Monmouth County, New Jersey, extending from Highlands and the Raritan Bayshore inland toward Freehold Borough along former railroad rights-of-way. Split into northern and southern sections by roads, rail lines, missing links, and abandoned bridges, it preserves corridors first developed in the eighteen sixties to move farm produce, goods, and marl fertilizer to Keyport. Rail service ended by the nineteen fifties, and the Atlantic section reopened as a trail in nineteen ninety-two as Monmouth County’s first rail-trail, with later inland expansions. Today it serves recreation while preserving a visible link to the county’s agricultural and railroad history.
