In 1874, Andrew and Liston partnered with Barker and Johnson to construct the first brick building on the square. The Andrew and Liston Bookstore operated here for two years before Andrew sold his interest in the book business and joined Hugh R. Creighton in real estate and abstracts. Liston then renamed the business the Palace Book Store and managed it successfully at this address for a decade before relocating to the north side of the square. After Liston left, Barker and Johnson expanded their store into this portion of the building until 1897, when Barker retired and the business became the G.E. Johnson Dry Goods Store. Johnson later reduced the business to 108 and 110 North Howard and maintained a long and successful career here through the early 1920s. The business then shifted to shoes for the next 90 years, under Carl Johnson, Hickman Shoes, Jones' Shoes, Harold's Shoes, Moureau's Shoes, and finally Koch's Family Footwear. The most recent resident of 110 North Howard is Victoria's Boutique, which opened in November 2008 and specializes in women's fashion, accessories, and shoes.
