Slatington Borough Council purchased this property in 1888 to erect the town’s first fire station and decided that the new building would house both the fire company and Slatington’s municipal offices. Dedicated on November 28, 1889, the building housed the town’s first fire apparatus. The construction of an annex in 1911 allowed for additional borough offices above the engine room. Slatington borough conducted business here for 65 years before relocating to the former Roosevelt elementary school in 1976. Hose Company No. 1 remained at this location until the borough centralized the town’s three fire companies in 1986.
