The Von Braun Astronomical Society in Huntsville, Alabama, is an educational and public-outreach astronomy organization that unites amateur and professional astronomers while encouraging young people through programs and student leadership. Founded as the Rocket City Astronomical Association by Wernher von Braun and other German rocket scientists after the Second World War, it later became part of spaceflight history when von Braun and colleagues used its 21-inch telescope to help search for Apollo lunar landing sites. In Monte Sano State Park, its observatory and planetarium also preserve tangible links to the American space program through facilities and equipment connected to Saturn V, Skylab, and early NASA lunar studies.
