Maurepas Swamp Wildlife Management Area is a 112,615-acre protected wetland complex in southeastern Louisiana that surrounds three sides of Lake Maurepas across parts of five parishes. Built through donations, purchases, and conservation partnerships from 2001 onward, it grew from a large gift by the Richard King Mellon Foundation into a more continuous protected landscape through later additions, including the MC Davis tract and forested wetlands on the lake’s north side. The area preserves swamp forest and open wetland habitat, supports migratory birds, and contains characteristic basin vegetation, though invasive plants remain an ongoing management challenge.
