Joseph Joachin Moraga founded San Francisco in 1776 by establishing the Mission and Royal Presidio of St. Francis there. In 1777 he founded the Mission Santa Clara and the Pueblo of San Jose. He was the grandfather of the co-grantee of Rancho Laguna de los Palos Colorados.
