Grenada Fort
Military
7
In 1862 the Confederate army built forts throughout Grenada in response to General Ulysses S. Grant's Mississippi Central Railroad Campaign to capture Vicksburg. This small fort guarded the approach to Grenada from the south along the main road that in 1862 led to Carrollton. The TV tower hill fort is the smallest earthwork still in existence and was likely manned by a small infantry regiment, though the identity of the troops who occupied the site is unknown.
