Tolmie Peak Fire Lookout is a two-story wood-frame lookout in Mount Rainier National Park, one of four stations the National Park Service built there between 1932 and 1934. Designed under the supervision of Edwin A. Nickel, its upper floor served for fire detection and its ground level for storage. Soon after it was completed, a windstorm tore off the roof, leading to repairs and the addition of cables anchored to deadmen for stability. The building later took on a visitor-contact role on weekends. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991 and contributes to the park’s nationally recognized rustic Park Service architecture.
