Barth Falls
Nature
Barth Falls is a small waterfall on the North Fork Klaskanine River in northwestern Oregon, off Highway 202 between Jewell and Astoria. It is chiefly notable for a three-step fish ladder built to let fish bypass the falls and continue upstream migration. More than its size, the site’s importance lies in this practical river adaptation, which prevents the drop from blocking migrating fish. Among Oregon’s waterfalls, Barth Falls stands out for the way a natural cascade and engineered fish passage function together.
