Built circa 1740 by Peter Grubb, a pioneer ironmaster at nearby Cornwall Furnace, Hopewell Forge Mansion took its name from the Upper and Lower Hopewell Forges on Hammer Creek near the house, and remnants of the forge dams may still be seen in the creek.
