Originally built as a dormitory for girls working at the Puget Hotel, this building later housed Chinese workers employed there from 1925 until 1936, when they left Port Gamble. The earliest record of Chinese residents in Port Gamble was in 1870, with 12 men and 1 woman, and by 1880 their numbers had risen to 50. Chinese residents worked as cooks, household help, and mill workers, ran laundries, and grew produce.
