The TWA Flight Center, the former Trans World Airlines terminal at John F. Kennedy International Airport in Queens, was designed by Eero Saarinen and Associates and completed in 1962 as a bold jet-age gateway. Its birdlike thin-shell concrete headhouse, sweeping interior spaces, and enclosed passenger tubes made it both architecturally striking and technologically advanced for its time. After later alterations, a second flight wing, and the end of its use as an active terminal in 2001, much of the complex was lost or changed. The restored headhouse became part of the TWA Hotel in 2019 and endures as a landmarked, widely admired symbol of twentieth-century air travel.
