Koberg Beach State Recreation Site
History
9
Koberg Beach State Recreation Site in Hood River County, Oregon, began as property owned by the Koberg family, who developed the beach and built a rustic dance hall popular with people from nearby Hood River. The state Highway Department acquired the land in 1953, removed the dance hall in 1954, and by 1962 had opened an entrance road, parking area, and other basic facilities. It now functions as an Oregon state park administered by the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department and serves as a wayside rest area for westbound traffic on Interstate 84.
