Near this site on the edge of the old Metamonong Swamp stood White Post, an early trading post and a stop for the Lafayette-Michigan City stage coach. The county's first post office, established here on May 1, 1838, was called White Post. A one-room White Post School stood for many years at the southwest corner of the crossroads.
