On Coy Hill Road in West Brookfield, Massachusetts, this historic archaeological site preserves sixty-one acres of forest on Coys Hill and the ruins of the farmhouse where Lucy Stone was born and later married. Stone, who lived from 1818 to 1893, became an early and prominent activist for women’s rights, giving the place lasting significance. Although the house was destroyed by fire in 1950, the site has long endured as a memorial to her life and legacy. Its importance received formal recognition when it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2021.
