Rock House Reservation
Nature
Rock House Reservation in West Brookfield, Massachusetts, is a 196-acre preserve centered on a dramatic natural rock shelter long believed to have served Native Americans as a winter camp and possibly a trail camp or meeting place. Shaped by the Wisconsin Glacier, the landscape features notable formations including Balance Rock and the Rock House Shelter, along with varied forest habitats across a broad elevational range. The land later passed through farming and recreation eras, including use as a trolley destination and country retreat. Protected in stages from 1977 onward, it now offers trails, scenic features, and a connection to the adjacent Lucy Stone Home Site.
