The Ware–Hardwick Covered Bridge carries Old Gilbertville Road and Bridge Street across the Ware River, connecting Ware and Gilbertville in Hardwick, Massachusetts. Built in 1886, it is among the few surviving nineteenth-century covered bridges in the state and remains a notable part of the old mill village setting. The single-span lattice truss follows architect Ithiel Town’s patented design and is enclosed in vertical siding under a gabled metal roof. After surviving major flooding in the 1930s, the bridge later deteriorated, was extensively rebuilt in 1986–1987, closed after a 2002 inspection, and reopened in October 2010 following a $1.9 million reconstruction and restoration.
