Otis Ridge, a ski area in Otis, Massachusetts, opened in 1946 with two surface lifts and one trail and has remained a local skiing destination ever since. Its early expansion mirrored the rise of postwar skiing in New England, reaching five runs by 1960 with a J-bar, pomalift, and two rope tows. Though modest in scale, it has continued to evolve while keeping that character. The mountain now has 11 trails, including Acorn, its longest green run, and Slalom, its steepest trail and ski team practice slope. Its strong racing program has long shaped its reputation, and Ski Butternut’s 2016 purchase preserved it from foreclosure.
