Chester-Blandford State Forest in western Massachusetts spans the towns of Chester and Blandford as a publicly owned forest managed for both conservation and recreation. Established in 1924 after local lumber companies sold the land to the state, it preserves woodland along with evidence of earlier land use, including remnants of small mining operations. From 1934 to 1940, the Civilian Conservation Corps built much of the infrastructure that still defines the forest, including a campground, pavilions, trails, ski runs, and the road and bridges to Sanderson Brook Falls. Today it is known for that 60-foot waterfall, its trail network, and a wide range of outdoor activities.
