Joseph Allen Sisco, son of Brownie and Daisy (Swift) Sisco and brother to Earl, Clara, Lee, Sue, Anna, and Mary Lou, was born and raised in Etowah, where he enjoyed football and airplanes and was loved by all. A Technical Sergeant, he flew 35 missions during WWII with the 8th Air Force and received many decorations, including the Bronze Star, Silver Star, Purple Heart Medal, Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with 3 bronze oak leaf clusters, and the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal. On August 20, 1948, Joe and 16 comrades aboard a 8-29 died in a fiery crash.
