California Hill State Forest is a 982-acre New York State forest in the towns of Kent and Putnam Valley in Putnam County. Created in 2007, it joined three existing multiple-use areas at Pudding Street, Gordon Road, and California Hill into one contiguous forest. Managed by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, it has been developed for mixed-use recreation, including hiking, mountain biking, hunting, and off-trail camping, building on an unauthorized biking trail that already existed there. The property also contains Lake Waywayanda and Pudding Street Pond, known for varied fish, and supports wildlife such as wild turkey, white-tailed deer, pheasants, and rabbits.
