Rockwood Oak
History
15
In the late 18th century, the Cherokee maintained a tollgate here and exacted tribute from travelers moving between the Watauga Settlements and the Cumberland country. Here James Glasgow, John Hackett, and Littlepage Sims arranged with Talootiske of the Cherokee for the lines of the Indian Reservation and the town of Rockwood boundaries. The tree blew down in 1925.
