Lexington automobiles were produced in Connersville from 1910 to 1926 after the Lexington Automobile Company, founded in Lexington, Kentucky, in 1908, was enticed by Connersville businessmen to move there and help replace the city’s dying buggy and carriage industry. The factory assembled cars from locally made parts in the nation’s first industrial park, producing reliable, mid-priced automobiles that became well known through the Minute Man Six and Thoroughbred Six models. Like many early twentieth-century car manufacturers, Lexington improved its cars through racing, entering the 1912 Indianapolis 500 and the Glidden Tour, then competing in the Pikes Peak Hill Climb in 1920, where it took first and second place, and winning again in 1924. Under the management of Edward Ansted and his son Frank, the company thrived and also produced Howard and Ansted cars. The Lexingtons made Connersville a vital part of America’s early automobile industry.
