Dr. Stanley J. Dudrick, a distinguished surgeon, educator, scientist, and Professor of Surgery at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine, was born in Nanticoke in 1935 and raised on West Union Street. He has been named one of the 50 most influential physicians in history and is known as the Father of Intravenous Feeding for developing the technology used in every hospital in the world that has saved tens of millions of lives. Despite his worldwide reputation and monumental achievements, he has always been proud of his roots in Nanticoke.
