Mount Gayley is a 13,510-foot summit in the Palisades of the Sierra Nevada within the John Muir Wilderness in eastern California, ranking as the state's 59th highest peak. Named for University of California, Berkeley professor and dean Charles Mills Gayley, it belongs to a nearby cluster of peaks named for university figures. Norman Clyde made its recorded first ascent on June 10, 1927, and later climbers established routes on its ridges and faces, including the West Face in June 1950. Its alpine climate, shaped by Pacific storms and orographic lift, helps sustain the Palisade Glacier, while runoff drains into Big Pine Creek.
