Juniata County
History

Juniata County was formed on March 2, 1831 from Mifflin County. It was named for the Juniata River and became noted for its scenery and wildlife. Indian trails, a turnpike, a canal, and a railroad made the area a major route for trade and travel. Mifflintown, the county seat, was incorporated in 1833.
