Caesars Head State Park occupies a high Blue Ridge Escarpment outcrop in northern Greenville County, where dramatic cliffs and broad Piedmont views made it a notable destination from the early nineteenth century onward. After the Jones Gap Road opened, Benjamin Hagood developed the area into a summer retreat and hotel, later reshaped by war, changing ownership, and use as a health resort. The hotel era lasted into the twentieth century before fire ended it in 1954. Between 1976 and 1986, South Carolina assembled the present park, now managed with Jones Gap State Park as part of the Mountain Bridge Wilderness and known for overlooks, waterfalls, hiking, trout streams, hawk migration, and diverse wildlife.
