Ozark Caverns is a tourist-accessible cave in Missouri’s Osage River cave region and one of only three “tamed” caves in the state. First explored in the late 1880s, it was commercially developed in the 1930s after Lake of the Ozarks was created, with paths, bridges, and lighting added for visitors. Acquired by the Missouri state park system in 1979, it later had its electric lights removed, leaving a darker, less staged setting. A stream runs through the cave and exits at its mouth, and the cave is especially noted for Angel Showers, a rare water-and-calcite formation. Claw marks on a wall and lantern-lit tours add to its distinctive character.
