Lofthus is a historic shipwreck off Boynton Beach, Florida, resting on a shallow reef near Manalapan in 15 to 20 feet of water. Built in Sunderland, England, in 1868 as the iron-hulled barque Cashmere, it later sailed under Norwegian ownership as Lofthus on American trade routes. On February 4, 1898, it wrecked in a storm while bound from Pensacola to Buenos Aires. All 16 crewmen, along with the ship’s cat and dog, survived after rescue by Three Friends. Its scattered remains form an underwater archaeological site recognized for both maritime history and Boynton Beach’s coastal heritage.
