Military
8
On a Sunday morning in July 1832, an Indian raiding party from the Okefenokee Swamp murdered seven members of the Wildes Settlement. Six of the victims were from the Wildes family, and one was a 12-year-old Wilkinson girl. Five children escaped to the Post House 2 miles away. After the killings, the raiders robbed and then burned the Wildes home.
