In 1915, the city of Alliance, Ohio, enlarged its water supply by purchasing land and damming streams in Knox Township, Columbiana County, at Westville, Ohio. The new Westville Reservoir would inundate the private Westville Colored Cemetery on the west side of Westville Road, established by Virginia Quaker Micajah 33 and Unity 25 Coppock Stanley. The first burial was Gilbert Benjamin Hair, who died 20 Jul 1844 at age 5m 18d. The last burial was Sarah Towns, who died 29 Aug 1911 at age 22. The City of Alliance purchased this tract in Damascus Cemetery for the reinterment of the freed slaves and their kin, and a 1938 Damascus Cemetery blueprint reads: Colored cemetery which was moved from Westville.
