The men from South Orange who died in the Viet Nam War were honored as having given their lives in an effort to bring peace to all mankind: 2nd Lt. Brian Daly Conlan, U.S.M.C.; S/Sgt. Peter Spencer Connor, M.H., U.S.M.C.; Lt. John Richard McDonough, U.S. Navy; P.F.C. Theodore E. Moon, Jr., U.S. Army; and M/Sgt. Ferdinand Quatrone, U.S. Army. Their sacrifice was paired with John Greenleaf Whittier's words from "Lexington": "The went where duty seemed to call They scarcely asked the reason why; They only knew they could but die, And death was not the worst of all!"
