Corporal J. Levi Roush of Company D, 6th Pennsylvania Reserves, was born in McKee, Pennsylvania, and at age 25 during the Civil War was one of six volunteers who charged a log house near Devil's Den where Confederate sharpshooters were sheltered and compelled their surrender on July 2, 1863, at the Battle of Gettysburg; he died in 1906. Corporal Harry Raymond Harr of the U.S. Army, a resident of East Freedom, Pennsylvania, was age 24 during World War II when he was killed in action on June 5, 1945, at the Battle of Mindanao Island after smothering a Japanese hand grenade with his body, saving the lives of four fellow soldiers and enabling them to repair their machine gun and hold their position.
