Mildrette Netter, a native of Bolivar County born in 1948, graduated from West Bolivar High School, where she excelled in sports, especially track and field. She earned a track scholarship to Alcorn State University and won a gold medal in the 4x100-meter relay during the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City. After graduating from Alcorn in 1972, she began a successful coaching career and earned numerous championship titles. In 2003, she was inducted into the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame.
