Mount Crandell is a prominent 2,381-metre summit in Waterton Lakes National Park, immediately north of the Waterton townsite and overlooking the lakeshore area. Named in 1914 for early Calgary oilman Edward H. Crandell and formally adopted in 1943, it reflects both local settlement history and the park’s official landscape. The mountain is made of sedimentary rock deposited from the Precambrian to the Jurassic in shallow seas, then thrust eastward over younger Cretaceous rocks during the Laramide orogeny, helping form the park’s mountain front. Its subarctic climate brings severe winters, and its runoff feeds Waterton Lake and the Waterton River watershed.
